What is STEM Careers Exploration Week?

The Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program (ANSEP) has partnered with the Alaska Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) to encourage middle-school students to consider careers in healthcare.
Students spend a week on the campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage participating in a variety of activities.

The healthcare track explores a different theme each year. In 2015 students learned about biochemistry and DNA; in 2016 they studied traumatic brain injury. The theme for 2017 is nutrition, exercise and general wellness.

Students had the chance to meet professionals from a wide range of healthcare fields, including physical therapy, dentistry, dietetics, veterinary science and public health, among others. They toured an industrial kitchen and a wildlife center. At the end of the program they created their own presentations on a chosen topic. Those presentations are in the Student Pages link above.
